St. Louis Park Public Schools Families,
I’d like to take a moment to update you on our plans to select an interim superintendent for the 2023-24 school year.
First, I want to thank the Minnesota School Board Association (MSBA) for their collaboration, expert guidance, and counsel to the St. Louis Park Public Schools School Board. MSBA has supported many Minnesota school districts through a similar process, and we are grateful for their partnership.
The role of the interim superintendent is to bring stability during this transition, keep our operations and current initiatives running smoothly, and continue the priorities of our Strategic Plan. We seek a finalist who is an experienced, equity-minded leader, potentially a retired superintendent, who is personally and professionally aligned to our district’s plan for racial equity transformation. The interim superintendent will only serve in this role through June 2023, and will not be considered for the permanent superintendent position.
After receiving the school board’s unanimous approval earlier this afternoon, I will have conversations with interested interim superintendent candidates and bring one finalist to the board for consideration in the coming weeks. The school board’s interview with the finalist will be open to the public and recorded for viewing on the district’s Youtube Channel. It is our goal to have someone in place at some point in October 2023.
At a future point, the school board will engage in deeper conversations on plans for a robust search process for a permanent superintendent. This process will include extensive community engagement with students, families and staff. We will keep you informed throughout the school year as more plans and decisions are made.
Throughout this transition, our commitment to SLP's strategic plan remains unwavering. Our district has made significant strides in our journey toward racial equity transformation, and this work will remain our top priority. We are steadfast in our dedication to the well-being of our collective community and the continued growth and learning of our students, despite the change in district leadership.
We invite you to view the recording of today’s Special School Board Meeting, which includes more information about the interim superintendent search process. We apologize for the poor audio quality of the recording.
We sincerely appreciate your family's dedication to our students and your continued support during this time. Together, we will navigate this transition with the utmost commitment to our students' well-being and educational growth.
Warm regards,
Anne Casey
Board Chair
